Picture 2 of 4

Situated in the centre of Bolton, the Octagon Theatre produces between eight and nine professional theatre productions a year in its main auditorium. Opened in 1967, productions have always come from a wide range of types and genres, including classic drama, contemporary plays, comedies and musicals. Productions and adaptations in recent years include Hamlet (directed by University of Bolton Professor of Theatre David Thacker), East is East, To Kill a Mockingbird, Rita Sue and Bob Too, Jane Eyre, to name but a few.

As the renowned theatre’s own website states: ‘Stories are at the heart of everything we do at the Octagon – from telling some of the greatest stories ever written on our stages to encouraging the young people we work with to tell stories of their own.’ There are many opportunities for budding writers and literature lovers of all ages to get involved with the theatre’s many projects and programmes; find out more here.

The Theatre will undergo a substantial renovation in 2018.
